Fancy Diamonds

Diamonds are most well known as white gemstones, but occasionally they appear in other colors - yellow, brown, black, red, green, blue, pink, and even purple. In the case of these very rare "Fancy" Diamonds, the normal grading system of colorless to faint color (D-Z) does not apply. Instead, like other gemstones, Fancy Colored Diamonds are valued according to the vibrancy of their color. The deeper the hue, the more valuable the stone.

The most common colored diamonds come in yellow and brown hues - Canary, Champagne, Cognac, and Coffee Diamonds. Of course, the word "common" here is relative; colored diamonds of any hue are fantastically rare, occurring only in one of every ten thousand gem-quality diamonds. Even then, the color is often very faint, making intensely colored Fancy Diamonds rarer still.
